Class Routines

PE will be on Tuesdays. Children will come into school in their PE kit on PE days. This term you will receive more information about children beginning to practise changing out of PE kit and back into uniform after their PE lessons.

Children will enter and leave school using the yellow gate onto the Reception outdoor area.

Reading books will be changed weekly. Reading books will be set using our e-library (coming this term). This will enable all children to show-off the reading skills they have been learning at school using the exact same books at home.

Children will also choose a library book to take home each week for them to share with an adult. These books will not be matched to the children's reading ability so they are for an adult to read to the children. This is a precious opportunity for you to snuggle down with your child and take a few moments together to get lost in a book. It is one of the most important things you can do to help your child grow to love books and become a successful reader as they grow older.

Summer Term

In the summer term, children in Reception will begin to prepare for their transition into Year One by working on the independent skills they will need. We will have plenty of fun along the way, learning about topics like Buildings and Construction, Things that Go, Kings and Queens and more. Children will continue working on their reading skills so that they are able to automatically read a wider range of single words; words in sentences and words in whole reading books. They will continue working on their writing skills, focussing on using finger spaces, capital letters and full stops correctly as well as continuing to use the graphemes they have learnt for spelling. In maths, children will work on understanding numbers beyond ten as well as recapping key concepts such as one more and one less.

Here is what we have been getting up to in Birch Class!

Star of the Week

Each week a child from Birch will be chosen to receive the Star of the Week award. Their photo will be posted here.

Tapestry

Tapestry is an online learning platform and app which is used to create a record of a child's journey through their early years. Teachers, early years practitioners and parents all contribute to their child's record using photos, written comments and videos. All information held in the platform is stored securely, and can be downloaded and shared as required. Parents are able to view online their child’s progress and how much fun they’re having,

If you have not returned the Tapestry Home/School Agreement please ask a member of the Reception team for another copy of the letter.  All parents who have returned the agreement should have received an activation email.  If you cannot find this in your inbox, it may have filtered into your junk mail.  If you have not received an activation email for Tapestry, please let us know and we will resend the invitation.

In the event of a school closure, due to Covid-19, Tapestry will be our primary means of communication.  It is important to us that we have all families fully signed up and able to use their accounts.  If you need any help at all with setting up or using Tapestry, please don't hesitate to ask.
