Year 3 - Mrs Mossom and Miss Philpotts
Welcome to our class page. We hope you will find it useful and it will let you know what we are currently learning about in school.
AUTUMN TERM
Class Routines
Our main classroom door for the start and end of the school day is the Year 3 playground door.
Our regular PE days are Thursday and Friday. On these days children should come to school in PE kit.
On a Thursday and Friday, Miss Philpotts will be teaching Willow and Mr O Keefe will be teaching both PE sessions. Mrs Corrigan will be supporting in Year 3.
Current Learning
This term our learning will focus around our history and geography unit on The Stone Age to the Iron Age.
Knowledge Organiser The Stone Age to Iron Age
Our class novel this half term is: The Boy Who Grew Dragons, by Andy Shepherd.
Writing: In writing we will be developing our descriptive writing skills, using setting and character descriptions in a story based on Mini Rabbit Not Lost. We will be exploring poetry by looking at The Magic Box as well as focusing on the skills needed to write non-chronological reports We will be continuing to develop our handwriting using joining and thinking about spelling strategies to help us spell more accurately.
Maths: We will be developing our understanding of place value of numbers to 1000, then learning to add and subtract using written methods. Alongside this we will be developing our fluency skills using Number Sense which we will practice daily.
Science: We will be learning about rocks, fossils and soils.
PE: We will be developing our netball and tag rugby skills.
RE: We will be focusing our learning about the beliefs of Christianity.
French: We will be learning about colours and how to count to 10.
Art: We will be learning how to use tone when sketching, as well as how to create tints and hues when mixing colours to paint landscapes.
Homework
Our expectations for homework are as follows:
Reading: Reading aloud with an adult as often as possible, with a minimum expectation of 4 times a week. This can be the school banded book or free reading at home; record any home reading in reading record. These will be checked weekly by the class teacher.
Spellings: Children should be able to spell all words on the Statutory Word Lists for Years 3/4 by the end of Year 4 so please learn a few at a time.
Times Tables: Children should know;
- 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10 times table by the end of Year 3
