Early Years

Welcome to Early Years at The Pines. We are very proud of our Early Years and all of the learning which happens here! Across both Nursery and Reception we have implemented 'in the moment planning', meaning we are led by the children's interests and that our timetable has plenty of time for children to learn through play. In both classes, you will find exciting and inspiring spaces for learning, adults who take the time to really listen to the children and lots of opportunities for finding out new knowledge and gaining new skills.

Summer Term

In Reception, we are looking forward to enjoying the sunny weather of summer term and especially growing some of our own plants and food. There will be a strong focus on story-telling, using new vocabulary with growing confidence, developing more independence in reading and writing and consolidating our knowledge of number bonds as well as exploring numbers beyond 20. Towards the end of the summer term, our Reception class will begin to prepare for their transition into KS1.

In Nursery, we welcome some more new starters to the setting. There will be a focus on settling into the Nursery rules and routines as well as supporting children to make new friends. During this term, children will continue to build on their sound discrimination learning as well as working on skills such as name writing and accurate counting to help prepare those who will be moving onto Reception in September.
